Drummer/producer Matt North is a native of Champaign, Illinois; the Midwest college town once nicknamed “Little Nashville” by Rolling Stone Magazine. Taking full advantage of Champaign’s odd mix of musical outlets, Matt was mentored by local professionals at a young age and began developing an equally odd range of styles ranging from Dixieland to Broadway to Folk to working alongside former John Coltrane bassist, Rafael Garrett, before he was sixteen. After high school, he received a scholarship to attend the esteemed University of North Texas and later joined John Garvey’s legendary big band at The University of Illinois where he played alongside Viktor Krauss (Lyle Lovett, Bill Frisell).
Now living in Los Angeles, Matt records, teaches, and performs with a select group of national songwriters and instrumentalists. He produced Rob Kendt's critically acclaimed CD “I’m Not Sentimental” (Ruby Records) and the debut LP from Hail The Size, “I Can’t Die In LA” featuring former Lone Justice lead singer, Maria McKee. Matt has recorded and performed with Viktor Krauss, Andy Prieboy (Wall of Voodoo), Kristian Hoffman (The Mumps, Dave Davies), Blondie Chaplin, J'anna Jacoby (Rod Stewart), cult-icon Mink Stole of John Waters fame, and pop prodigy Todd Fletcher of June and The Exit Wounds (Parasol).
Matt is currently drumming for Jesse DeNatale, Rob Kendt, and producing The Clutter Family. He also is a contributing writer for Modern Drummer Magazine.

WHITE TRASH WINS LOTTO
The rise and fall of Axl Rose told by comical sour-grapes songs about the music biz. Andy Prieboy took WTWL from LA's uber-hip Largo to a full-on musical on "Conan O'Brien" & SRO runs at The Roxy. Matt played Skid from The Guitar Center & eurotrash youth at Jim Morrison's grave with an all-star cast: Dave Foley (Kids in the Hall) and Devo & Sparks drummer David Kendrick!!!
